The Organic Food Circle of the Student Union

What?

The volunteer-based Organic Food Circle of the Subcommittee for Environmental Affairs offers food that is 1) produced locally (less than 150 kilometres from Jyväskylä) 2) organic (with a few exceptions) and 3) cheaper than organic products in the supermarkets.

When?

We organize eight joint orders per year – one per month from September to April. Anyone is welcome to join in these orders. Every month there are two important points of time to notice: the deadline for placing orders, and the time when the orders are given out to orderers. Orders are placed using a web form. The form will be open only for about one week before the monthly deadline, because we want to avoid changes that would occur in the product selection after customers have already placed orders. How to fill in the order form?

The order form contains the titles and prices of the products that are available at the time. Beside every title there is a blank space where you can mark the quantity that you want to order. By clicking 'Laske' you can check the total sum of your order (a delivery fee of 0,40 euros is added independent of how much and what you order). After the product list there is space for your name ('Tilaaja'), phone number ('Puhelinnumero'), and e-mail address ('Sähköpostiosoite'). Then you need to select where from and when you will pick up your order ('Noudan tilaukseni'); the two options are the Student Union building Ilokivi ('Ilokivestä') on Tuesday at 15:45–18:15, and the Biological and Environmental Science building Ambiotica ('Ambioticalta') on Wednesday at 12:00–12.15. After that just send your order by clicking 'Tee tilaus'. You will receive an automatic confirmation e-mail of your order.

How to get my order?

Once you have placed an order, you are obliged to pick up (or send someone else to pick up) the order from the event where everyone are given out their orders. In Ilokivi, these events are organized in a room called kabinetti (the cabinet), and in Ambiotica, in the main lobby of the third floor. In both places, all you have to do is tell your name, and you will receive the products you have ordered. Paying also takes place there; unfortunately we only accept cash.

A few of the about a dozen farms that deliver products for us are not controlled by authorities for following the standards of organic agriculture, but even those farmers assure that they follow the principles. Thus a part of the products that we offer are not officially organic, though not diverging in practice from official organic products. In some processed products there are also non-organic ingredients, such as sugar.
